Amsterdammit
Home is right there across the water. The bridge is up. Dammit.
So you walk the long way round: bike lanes, one-way streets, tram rails and canals, one hop at a time, through Amsterdam at night.
- Cars stop at the zebra
- Bike are supposed to
- Boats will carry you across the canal
- Watch out for the fatbikes!
- Sound recommended!
The clock runs from your first hop to your front door. Dying only costs time: you're back on the last curb to try that stretch again. Get home, post your time to the board, then come back and beat it!
How to play
| Arrow keys / WASD | Hop one tile |
| R | Restart after reaching home |
| M | Mute (volume button top right) |
Keyboard only, plays in the browser. If there's no sound, click the game once.
The long way home
Made solo in six days for GoedWare Game Jam #17. The HUD shows how far home is vs how far you've actually walked.
Pixel art, sound design and code are mine. The music is real Dutch barrel organs. Claude Code helped me talk through design, review code and write the odd scaffold. Sounds and fonts are royalty-free and credited below and in CREDITS.md inside the game.
Credits
- Art: drawn for the jam in the Apollo palette by AdamCYounis. (With a few Amsterdam-specific swatches added)
- Music: barrel organ recordings by RTB45, klankbeeld, ajvds and hanstimm on Freesound (CC BY / CC BY-NC).
- Sound: Freesound and Pixabay contributors, full list with links in CREDITS.md. The fatbike horn is sampled from @windgoo.co on TikTok. A few bells and a tram are my own recordings.
- Fonts: Silkscreen by Jason Kottke (OFL). Title set in Bricks by Billy Argel (free for personal use).
- Engine: ExcaliburJS
